Safety & Compliance

Volt Fleet sells electric bikes that comply with Australian product-safety requirements. Our e-bikes, their lithium-ion batteries and their chargers are certified electrical articles, supplied with the safety information required at the point of sale. Each bike is supplied with the specific battery and charger listed on its approval — substituting the battery or charger voids that approval.

Road rules

Our e-bikes are Electrically Power-Assisted Cycles (EPACs) with a 250W continuous-rated motor that assists only while pedalling and stops assisting at 25 km/h, certified to AS/EN 15194 (or UL 2849). A compliant EPAC is treated as a bicycle and does not require registration, a licence or insurance. Riders must follow the road rules and helmet laws in their state or territory. Modifying a bike to exceed 250W or 25 km/h makes it non-compliant and illegal to ride on roads or paths.

Lithium-ion battery safety

Lithium-ion batteries are highly flammable if damaged, misused or charged incorrectly. Always use only the supplied battery and charger; charge on a hard, non-flammable surface and unplug when full; let the battery cool before charging; store it cool, dry and out of direct sun; and stop using any battery or charger that is damaged, swollen, leaking, venting or overheating. Never dispose of batteries in household or recycling bins — recycle them through B-Cycle.

Pre-owned & ex-rental bikes

Pre-owned and ex-rental e-bikes are safety-checked and, where required, tested, certified and marked before sale. Battery condition and remaining warranty are stated on each listing.
